Disability Access Statement

The Old Stables is a one bedroom, two-storey stable and coach-house conversion. All measurements given below are approximate.

Parking and Access:

There is permanent level, tarmac, off-road parking for one car to the side of the property, by the main access door. However, this door is only 60cm wide and is not suitable for wheelchair access. Access door widths were governed by planning regulations during the conversion in order to retain the character of the original building and the only door suitable for wheelchair access is the garden/patio door. This is 79cm wide with a lip of 7cm from the external ground level. It is reached from the road, through the garden gate, 86cm wide. Temporary parking is available right outside this gate.

Lighting:

Lighting throughout is modern and consists of table lamps, wall light and ceiling downlighters. These are plentiful and adequate for the accommodation. There is external lighting by the patio entrance door and above the main entrance door.

Ground floor:

The ground floor accommodation comprises a cloakroom/w.c, kitchen and lounge/dining area. Minimum door width on the groundfloor is 64cm. Head room is limited only in the lounge/dining area, where the ceiling height is 1m 98cm (6’6”). There are no steps on the ground floor between rooms, but there is a very slight ramp-up from the kitchen to the lounge area.

First floor:

Bedroom and bathroom facilities are located on the first floor, accessed by a 80cm wide staircase of 11 steps, each 20cm high. There are two 90 degree left-hand turns and a left-hand wooden banister when ascending.  There is plenty of headroom inside the bedroom and bathroom generally, however there is a wooden roof-beam that cuts across the middle of the bedroom and headroom here is a maximum of 1m 73cm. The ceiling slopes down to the eaves.

The bathroom is equipped with basin, WC, bidet and bath, with a power-shower within the bath. This means access to the shower is over the lip of the bath, standing 54cm high. A non-slip bath mat is provided.

We hope the above information will help prospective guests with mobility concerns to make an informed decision about whether to stay at the Old Stables. If, however, you require any further information or clarification, please do not hesitate to contact Frank or Laura on the numbers above.
