How to Find Us By Public Transport: The Old Stables is out in the countryside and poorly served by public transport - your own transport is recommended (car or bike!). If you're coming by train, then from Barnstaple BR station (local line from Exeter Central or Exeter Saint David's BR, approx 1hr) follow the signs to the town centre and the Bus Station. There is a weekly bus service from here on Fridays only (market day in Barnstaple), leaving the bus station about 2.00 pm, going through Stone Cross and onto Brayford. This will drop you outside the cottage. To return, the bus passes Stone Cross for the town centre at about 10.15 am. Again, this is Friday only.
Images produced from the Ordnance Survey Get-a-map service By Car: Whether you are arriving from the Midlands and North, or from the South or East, you will more than likely use the M5 at some point. You need to leave the M5 at Junction 27 and take the A361 signposted Tiverton and Barnstaple. Follow the A361 for about 26 miles, following signs to Barnstaple, until you reach the third roundabout. Take the A399 exit on the right, signposted to Combe Martin, Ilfracombe, Woolacombe, and Lynton. Travel along the A399 for approximately 5 miles to the village of Brayford, and take the left hand sharp turning off the crossroad, signposted to Barnstaple (approximately 200 yds into the village from the Brayford village sign). The Old Stables is a further 3 miles along this road - you will come down a slight incline and see the main house "Stone Cross House" with its low white wall in front of you, on the left hand side of the road. The Old Stables is situated next door. If you reach the village of Gunn - you've traveled half a mile too far! Please note that mobile signals are pretty patchy around here.
